Well I guess the San Francisco Giants won. Well actually AT&T Park won. At least someone won. (Lost a devastating loss in my softball league last night- DO NOT want to talk about it.) Anyways, back to the award.
MLB first started the Green Initiative Award in 2008 to recognize the MLB stadium that was diverting the most waste from landfills each year.
AT&T Park has won this award every year by having a Recycling Center staff that hand sorts through every piece of waste that leaves the ballpark. Let’s just think about that for a second.
Can you even imagine doing this??
Sorting through every piece of garbage in the stadium each game?! With that dedication to helping protect our environment, they very well deserve this award for the rest of their lives. Not only does the Recycling Center staff sort through waste, but the staff continues to increase each year ensuring that no waste goes to waste! (Too much?) The staff purchases more compo-stable items, and makes sure anything, and we mean ANYTHING, even construction waste, is taken to providers that will recycle the materials.
The highest percentage the Giants have obtained over the years is 96%. That means 96% of the waste that left AT&T Park was diverted from landfills! Now that is statistic more impressive than Judge’s exit velo. With that being said, congratulations to the San Francisco Giants and AT&T Park for taking this initiative so seriously. We at SSK will be there each year to provide the award winning Green Glove to you!
